How Shoulder Bags Are Made Shoulder bags consist of one tiny rug with the cloth clasp worked in as the piece is woven.  I weave the shoulder bags on the loom just as I weave my durable rag rugs. Once off the loom I choose complimentary colors of fabric to hand braid the shoulder strap for the bags.  Some straps show wisps of threads that are a mark of rag rug construction.  As you can see from the picture the cotton lining is sewn in over the clasp for extra reinforcement.      Shoulder bag seams are double sewn on the machine for tight construction. Lastly, I go through my mother's old tin button box to search out a uniquely big button to "set off" the colorfully woven, one-of-a-kind shoulder bag.
